Conviction Yoga is a non profit organization that brings the transformational forces of yoga, meditation and mindfulness practices into the Texas prison system. WE HAVE STARTED YOGA PROGRAMS IN SEVEN TEXAS PRISONS AND ARE CURRENTLY CONDUCTING A TEACHER TRAINING PROGRAM, FORMING INMATES INTO YOGA TEACHERS.
Physical Well Being
The physical benefits of yoga are well documented. The American Osteopathic Association (“AOA”) has determined that the relaxation techniques incorporated in yoga can lessen chronic pain, particularly lower back pain, arthritis, headaches and carpal tunnel syndrome.
Mental Well Being
Yoga helps manage stress, which is known to have devastating effects on the body and mind. The AOA has also determined that yoga can be very effective in developing coping skills and reaching a more positive outlook on life.
Spiritual Well Being
Yoga is a meditation based, spiritual discipline. It is a “religious neutral” practice, allowing inmates of any faith or belief system to participate.
Your generous support will help us spread and sustain the practice of yoga within the Texas Prison System.
